Thank you for checking out my website! It will take just a couple minutes of your valuable time to read the following overview of what problems I treat. This can help you decide if I'm a good choice for you.

Now available! I am now offering treatment using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitation and Reprocessing). EMDR is designated as an effective treatment for PTSD by the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. Even though EMDR is a well-established, effective treatment for PTSD, there is a surprisingly wide range of problems / disorders that can also be treated with EMDR:

  • Combat veterans
  • Phobias, panic disorders
  • Crime victims
  • Excessive grief (complicated grief)
  • Aftermath of natural disasters
  • Sexual assault, sexual abuse
  • Accident, surgery, burn victims
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Sexual addictions, chemical dependency, and pathological gambling
  • Dissociative disorders
  • Performance anxiety
  • Body dysmorphic disorder
  • Somatoform chronic pain
  • Personality disorders

Adult individuals and couples are the people I see in my psychotherapy practice. Many couples come to me for relationship problems. Couple therapy can include improving communication, healing a marriage after infidelity, and overcoming sexual difficulties. I use a very effective treatment modality for most sexual problems called sex therapy. I welcome all sexual orientations of individuals and couples as well as a variety of lifestyles.

An individual in a relationship or not in a relationship may seek my help to address sexual behaviors over which he/she wants to gain control. Sometimes people seek out my help to simply clarify their feelings about their sexual orientation or gender expression. Sexual issues or sexual problems that I have expertise in are: almost any kind of sexual dysfunction or sexual problem, sexual compulsions ("sex addiction"), and varied sexual expressions.

Much of my clinical experience is in helping people resolve trauma. Traumatic events include domestic violence, witness to DV in childhood, death of a loved one(s), abuse in childhood, child sexual abuse, and more. Often, traumatic events increase a person's use of harmful or non-useful coping techniques. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modality I use to help people gain control over these unwanted behaviors that can keep them from living their best lives. After eliminating non-useful behaviors through DBT techniques, which include meditation and mindfulness practice, I offer therapeutic techniques for eliminating the lingering effects of trauma. A very effective treatment, Imagery Rescripting and Reprocessing Therapy (IRRT) uses hypnosis and an exact protocol of steps. The client experiences this hypnosis as a "relaxed conversation." I have been able to help many people with these particular treatment modalities, IRRT and DBT.

Hypnotherapy is used to help my clients clear up existing obstacles to a more fulfilling, happier life or better relationships due to old trauma. IRRT and other techniques are employed that use hypnosis. Complicated grief (extended bereavement), chronic pain, depressed or angry moods triggered by minor events, and panic attacks are some typical problems that can be helped through the therapeutic use of hypnosis, meditation, breathing practice, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have helped many people reduce stress and/or reduce their insomnia with CBT plus additional specific techniques.

Depressive symptoms, Dysthymic Disorder, Major Depressive Episode/Disorder, anxiety symptoms, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Attacks, and more problems in the Mood and Anxiety diagnoses, are reduced and helped with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also use Cognitive Behavioral Anyalsis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP) to help clients with Dysthymic Disorder or chronic depression. CBASP is a type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that utilizes "disciplined personal involvement" developed by James P. McCullough, Jr., and has been shown through research to be more efficacious in treatment for cases of chronic depression than other modalities.
